ECOSOI – MISSION TO GREEN THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY WITH NATURAL FIBERS

In Chanel’s late 2019 collection, the renowned French fashion house introduced a yellow boater hat made from pineapple leaf and wool fibers, along with other materials and colors. This introduction conveyed a message to the market and consumers about the trend towards greening the fashion industry and the interest of major fashion houses in natural fibers. These fibers possess excellent biodegradability, making them safe for users and environmentally friendly.

According to forecasts by market research firm The Business Research Company, the scale of the natural fiber market is expected to grow from $63.62 billion in 2021 to $77.12 billion in 2026. Seizing this opportunity, many companies manufacturing materials from natural fibers have emerged and quickly achieved success in recent years.

In Vietnam, the source of pineapple materials remains largely untapped. As one of Vietnam’s main fruit trees, the area for pineapple cultivation is increasing day by day. According to statistics in 2022, pineapple production reached over 700 thousand tons, accompanied by nearly 3 million tons of pineapple leaves. To prepare for the next season in time, the common practice among pineapple growers is to mill and burn the leaves, and sometimes even spray herbicides to dry the leaves quickly and make them easier to burn. Despite knowing the significant environmental and health impacts, pineapple growers have few other quick and cost-effective options.

With the goal of environmental protection, enhancing the value of pineapple trees, and creating livelihoods for rural residents and vulnerable people in society, ECOSOI was established to transform pineapple leaves and other agricultural by-products into sustainable materials for fashion and consumption, meeting the needs of both domestic and international markets.

Vision

ECOSOI aims to develop the natural fiber industry and utilize natural fibers in Vietnam with the strategic vision of becoming the largest supplier of pineapple fibers in Vietnam. We lead the research and application of pineapple fibers in the textile and fashion industry, introducing Vietnamese natural fiber products and brands to the world. We aim to exploit all pineapple leaf waste in Vietnam while connecting and developing premium products from pineapple fibers.

Not stopping at pineapple fiber extraction, in the future, ECOSOI aims to expand and develop banana fiber extraction and other types of natural fibers.
